Our History

W.B. Green & Company, Inc. is one of the oldest and most respected independent insurance agencies in the Midwest.  It was established in 1882 by T.G. Kerr and purchased by William B. Green in 1903.  At the time the offices were located at 624 Wheeling Ave in downtown Cambridge, OH.  In 1924, E.M. (Bud) Scott entered the agency and was joined by his son Stephen A. Scott in 1936.  Mr. Green retired in 1938 and the business continued under the direction of the father-son duo.

Charles J. Jones, who had previously been associated with the Ohio Farmers Insurance Company, joined the agency in 1955.  W.B. Green Insurance continued to grow by purchasing the R.B. Moore Agency in 1957.  Soon after, E.M. (Bud) Scott retired after 34 years of service.  The agency became incorporated in 1965 and was now W.B. Green & Company, Inc.

To continue with the family business, Timothy H. Scott (1970) and Charles J. Jones, Jr. (1974) joined the insurance operation.  Stephen A. Scott retired in 1976 after 40 years in the business and Charles J. Jones soon followed in 1980 after 25 years.  The agency continued to flourish under the addition of the younger generation.  With the acquisition of The Frank Mackey Agency in 1972 and The Burson Agency in 1983, W.B. Green was established as the premier independent Ohio insurance agency in Southeastern Ohio.

W.B. Green continued to gain market share by offering great products and service to both personal and commercial clients.  The agency soon expanded its marketing efforts to other states including Pennsylvania, Florida, Illinois, Kentucky, and Michigan.  To offer more professional insurance services to its growing commercial clientele, the agency created a Group Benefits Division.  Linda Jackson was added to the operation in 1995 to oversee this growing portion of the business.

In January 2006, W.B. Green purchased the Handschy-Graham-Taylor Insurance Agency.  This merger allows W.B. Green the opportunity to offer even more options to its clients.

In January 2025, W.B. Green purchased the Hugh W. Roller & Associates Agency. This acquisition allowed W.B. Green insurance to offer yet another carrier option to their clients.
